Tyranny of Goblins Unboxing [Video]

Posted by Greg Bilsland on September - 11 - 2012

In July, Wizards of the Coast released its new miniatures skirmish game, Dungeon Command, with sets Sting of Lolth and Heart of Cormyr. We in D&D R&D love the heck out of this game, so I decided to spend some free time putting together a little unboxing video for the newest set, Tyranny of Goblins. Tyranny of Goblins emphasizes the Dexterity and Charisma ability scores, allowing for new deck-building options.

If you haven’t heard anything yet about Dungeon Command, you’ll find a good review on the Penny-Arcade Report, Play Unplugged, and Wired’s Geek Dad.

This is only my second video ever, so be forgiving.

I enjoyed playing with the set at PAX and Gen Con. In particular, I had a great 3-person game where we used each of the sets (Cormyr, Lolth, Goblins). The troll is really fun and I dig the repaints. The devil you chose is one of my favorite devil sculpts!

Suggestions: I would really have liked to see the set have two goblin wolf riders, as those minis are excellent, hard to find, and yet useful in many scenarios. I’m also really looking forward to smaller packs, where I don’t get all the pieces again, but instead get cards, minis, and maybe a special tile. That would make it a cheaper purchase but really strong in terms of a compelling addition.

I loved getting to play this set at Gen Con. I’ve been eagerly awaiting it since.

Wouldn’t you say that CON got to spend some time in the light as well? I noticed a solid amount of Constitution cards in the deck, and noticed that the Hobgoblins, Bugbear, Troll and Horned Devil are all Con creatures.

The Skeletal Rider preview is also Con….are we setting something up for the next set?
